Comfort for Elderly Valentina

We visited Valentina, a 90-year-old woman who lives alone in a village in northern Moldova. During the visit from Little Samaritan Mission, she opened her heart and shared with us the burden she carries all on her own.

Valentina moves with great difficulty, relying on two walking sticks because she does not have crutches. Every step, whether in her yard or inside her home, requires considerable effort.

When we asked her how she manages on her own, she sighed deeply and, with great sadness, told us about her 55-year-old son, who suffers from an aggressive form of kidney cancer. Because of his illness, he can no longer walk and can only move around in a wheelchair. His wife takes care of him, and the family is going through an extremely difficult time. Unfortunately, they live far from Valentina and cannot be by her side as often as they would like.

As a result, the elderly woman has been left alone, without anyone close to her who could help with her daily needs.

"I manage as best I can," she told us, sighing with resignation.

Valentina's life has not been easy. She has lived in the countryside and worked hard since her youth, spending many years laboring in the fields. She endured the cold, rain, and harsh weather of spring and autumn, often working in difficult conditions to earn a living.

Today, at the age of 90, her health has deteriorated considerably. She suffers from constant bone pain, and her strength continues to fade. The modest pension she receives barely covers her basic needs and does not allow her to purchase enough firewood for the entire winter. And winters in Moldova are long and freezing.

Valentina told us that throughout her life, she had never received this kind of assistance and did not know what it meant to receive support from people who come without expecting anything in return.

The visit from Little Samaritan Mission was a surprise and a true blessing for her. With deep gratitude, she received food, detergents, and fuel briquettes that will help keep her home warm throughout the winter.

For Valentina, these gifts meant much more than simple material assistance. They were a sign that she had not been forgotten, that someone was thinking of her, and that God was watching over her even in the midst of loneliness and suffering.

With a heart full of gratitude, elderly Valentina expressed her thanks for everything she received, considering this assistance a great gift from God.

Through these acts of love and kindness, Little Samaritan Mission brought not only food and warmth into Valentina's home, but also hope, comfort, and joy into her heart.
